Konan Amenant Éliane

A 10 year-old girl who has faced hearing loss since birth, consequently impacting her ability to speak and leading to significant challenges in her daily life, including interacting with peers. As a child born into a low-income farming family, Éliane faces limited opportunities for both personal growth and receiving the necessary medical support for her disability. The absence of suitable educational resources for children who are deaf-mute prevents her from attending school and making friends in that environment.
The combination of these circumstances creates immense hurdles in Konan's development and social interactions, making it crucial to provide her with the necessary assistance. Now, after receiving financial support, she engages in certain activities that would have been impossible without it, such as washing dishes with her sisters.

Hearing Assessment and Academic Performance Update
Éliane, like her brother, has been deaf since birth. This presents a significant communication barrier for her. Due to her disability, she cannot speak and struggles to understand others. Unfortunately, Éliane's parents don't know if providing healthcare for her will be possible, as the family is in a difficult financial situation and the government offers no support. Éliane's parents use their own sign language to communicate with their daughter.
Currently, Éliane's parents provide for her education, although her father hopes that she will be able to attend school in the future. Despite her disability, Éliane is very resourceful and independent. She has many friends and is well-known in her village. She helps her parents by working on the farm and taking care of the house. Her favorite activity is cooking, and she often plays pretend cook, although she dreams of becoming a hairdresser in the future.
The scholarship money has been an invaluable help for the girl – it was recently used to pay hospital bills when Éliane came down with malaria. With continued support, despite her parents' modest income, it may be possible to begin professional treatment or send the girl to school.
