Brou Aya

She is 12 years old and lives with her mum in a small village Kuassi Attinkro, located about 6 km from Brobo. Complications during her birth, such as perinatal asphyxia resulted in Aya suffering from psychomotor retardation, associated with motor handicap. This significantly affects her daily life and reduces her ability to function normally. Due to the difficult financial situation of the girl and her mother, Aya has never had access to adequate healthcare and was unable to live in a way similar to her healthy peers.

Appropriate action must be taken as soon as possible, otherwise, Aya’s chances of being independent in adult life will be greatly reduced.

Continuation of Home Care and Nutritional Assistance

Aya had probably acquired her intellectual disability after a bout of malaria. Unfortunately, this long-untreated disease often results in cerebral malaria and seizures. Aya's father told us that the girl recently used to attend school. Unfortunately, due to peer rejection, Aya is currently being homeschooled. Due to her disability, Aya is unable to communicate with her family or friends, of whom, unfortunately, she only has a few. According to the father, this doesn't matter much, as Aya doesn't understand her surroundings anyway.

Aya loves playing with her brother and sister in her free time. Her favorite pastimes are soccer and playing with stones. Her father is very concerned about his daughter's well-being. He revealed that Aya doesn't receive any government assistance, making the scholarship all the more valuable. With the scholarship money, Aya's father provides the girl with a nutritious breakfast. Her parents are incredibly caring and do their best to make their daughter's life easier.
